My Blizzard Contest Submission

2/20/2014

I entered the 2014 Blizzard student art contest, and here is my submission!  The character is inspired from the Pangolin, an animal that is much like an anteater/armadillo and eats ants/termites.  It's body is covered in plating that is made of keratin (same material as our nails), which protects it from predators.

I decided to go with an anthropormorphic creature because - well - the previous winners both went that route.  They also chose characters that seemed to be NPC's rather than player characters, so I also took note of that and did the same.  If I had more time to work on this (I had the month of January), I would definitely create a weapon for him; I'd probably go with either a pickaxe and/or a dagger.

Prior to this project, I also had very little experience with anything aside from women, so I figured this would be perfect practice to do a general male figure.

I'm pretty happy with the results, and I would love to build upon it by making the weapon(s) and maybe even creating a specular map + normal map.  We'll see if I can find the time, though!

**NOTE: I uploaded this model to Verold!  If you want, you can check it out here : http://studio.verold.com/projects/5306bc9f572599020000051f ***

This is a blog that I mainly use to record the work I do for AAU, but I'm sure I will be uploading some personal stuff, as well.
